Car Parking in Rydal

Please remember this is a working village
The village welcomes visitors, and there is a car park on the hill by Cote How. There are also two large car parks - one on each side of the A591 - at White Moss at the north end of the lake towards Grasmere, these are often under used.
The road on the hill by the churchyard has been recently upgraded and resurfaced. Bollards are now in place to provide a safe walkway for pedestrians, and to prevent parking which has damaged drainage and the cobbled guttering, latterly making walking hazardous.
Beyond Rydal Hall's gate, parking obstructs access for farm traffic, residents, utilities, essential deliveries and emergency services (including Mountain Rescue). Access is necessary at all times, and the road is for the most part not surfaced and is unsuitable and unsafe for parking.
The hill is an unadopted private road, therefore visitors should be aware that they drive here at their own risk as on an unadopted private road there is no insurance cover.
Please use the car parks, and park with care and consideration.
Note: Rydal Hall may provide some parking in their grounds, but this is dependant upon the Halls activities and a notice at the gate usually announces when this is available. There is a fee for parking.
