The Rydal Village Society 
was formed in 2005 in response to a request to submit a draft to the Lakes Parish Plan.
The Society's purpose is to represent all residents of the parish of Rydal and Loughrigg, and to act as an action group for the benefit of the community.
The society is open to all residents, and is intentionally very informal in its organisation. It meets about once a month, usually in the Glen Rothay Hotel.
A Coffee Morning for Macmillan Nurses at the Glen Rothay Hotel raised £265.
Since forming, it has submitted the village response to the Lakes Parish Plan, organised a fundraising coffee morning for Macmillan Nurses, and been involved in a number of local issues including the condition of Dora's Field following the January storms, the repair of a leaking water main on Rydal Hill, provision of grit for the road in winter, parking problems and christmas socials for the village. There is an ongoing campaign to get a speed limit through the village. Two leaflets have been produced by the society for residents and visitors and these can be downloaded here:
The WI was formed in 1952 and the first meeting was held at Rydal Cottage. More on the WI can be found here.
