The Rydal Heritage Board

After a long period of waiting, the Heritage Board has been placed at the foot of the hill, by the bus shelter. this board shows many of the notable sites within the vilkage area, and linked pages on a mini-site within the Rydal Village website have detailed information on the history and heritage of this unique village. Follow the link in the menu bar on the right.

Thanks go to the Ambleside Parish Council for funding the board, and to Pandora Signs of Hawkshead for a superb job of printing and installing the Board.

Within seconds of the board arriving, and before it had a chance to be fixed on to the wall, some American Visitors to the village were very interested in looking at it.

Rydal Hill Closure & Dipper Bridge

The left side of Rydal Hill, was coned off to prevent parking, and further damage to the road, following the impact of Storm Desmond..

The road is open for church attenders, locals needing access to their properties, and for visitors to those properties, Rydal Hall and Rydal Mount. The road is open as usual for access, deliveries etc.

Dipper Bridgehas been closed since Storm Desmond. Work has now started on reconstruction. It has taken organisation as it carries gas & electric, and the old Estate water supply is just below one of the piers.

It is good news as LDNPA had said that the repair (replacement!) of the bridge was a priority, but would not happen until mid-July, but LDNPA later said that they would finance this, get on with the work now, and get their EU money later.

The new bridge will be a little wider, to allow wheel chairs to use it.

Sale of land by the Lake District National Park

News of the proposed sale of land in nearby areas by the Lake District National Park to private individuals has raised serious concerns in our village (and beyond) about the speed and lack of consultation in the manner in which this has been conducted by the LDNP, and we strongly believe that this land should remain in public ownership, or at least that the sale should be delayed in order to give public representatives adequate opportunity to consider how to respond.
